One year ago, we launched the Traceable British Wool scheme, giving UK brands the opportunity to know exactly which farm every single fleece they use was grown on. This has allowed us to pay hard-working British farmers a fairer price for their wool, which currently doesn't even cover the cost of shearing a sheep.
It's early days, and we have more to do, but in the first 12 months of the scheme we are proud to say we have included 792 farmers on the scheme, amounting to 468,566 kgs of wool on which premiums have been paid.
Our ultimate ambition is to have every single British sheep farmer getting commercial value for their fleeces, while giving people confidence that the wool products they buy have been ethically sourced.
